Rocky Mountain National Park is located in
Colorado near Estes Park. This park is a living showcase of the
grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, with elevations ranging from 8,000 feet
(2,438 meters) in the wet, grassy valleys to 14,259 feet (4,267 meters)
at the weather-ravaged top of Longs Peak. Here, at least 60 peaks exceed
12,000 feet (3,657 meters), topping off at 14,259 feet. The wide variety
of elevations and habitats creates a choice of activities for visitors.
The Continental Divide stretches across the crest of the Rocky
Mountains. Trail Ridge Road crosses the Continental Divide. It is the
highest paved highway in the continental US and is closed in the winter.
