Canyon of the Gunnison is unique and spectacular. The landscape was
formed slowly by the action of water and rock scouring down through hard
Proterozoic crystalline rock. No other canyon in North America combines
the narrow opening, sheer walls and startling depths. The park is
located approximately 250 miles Southwest of Denver. It has two rims,
but there is no bridge between the North and South rims of the canyon. Allow yourself two to three
hours to drive from one side to the other.
South Rim is East of Montrose, North Rim is South of Crawford, North Rim Road is unpaved.
